In our own history, religion has been falsely invoked to sanction prejudice -- even slavery -- to condemn labor unions and public spending for the poor. I believe that the prophecy, ;The poor you have always with you; is an indictment, not a commandment. And I respectfully suggest that God has taken no position on the Department of Education -- and that a balanced budget constitutional amendment is a matter of economic analysis, and not heavenly appeals.Religious values cannot be excluded from every public issue; but not every public issue involves religious values.k^28rALeK@R_]k2BTFX@cwEImps!zLCqgONqF[0^z0Ua^QlG(yRZ1zB4evTATC#Prj,u1j163476Let us resolve to make our government a place for what Franklin Roosevelt called ;bold, persistent experimentation,; a government for our tomorrows, not our yesterdays. Let us give this capital back to the people to whom it belongs. To renew America, we must meet challenges abroad as well at home. There is no longer division between what is foreign and what is domestic; the world economy, the world environment, the world AIDS crisis, the world arms race; they affect us all. Today, as an old order passes, the new world is more free but less stable. Communisms collapse has called forth old animosities and new dangers. Clearly America must continue to lead the world we did so much to make. While America rebuilds at home, we will not shrink from the challenges, nor fail to seize the opportunities, of this new world. Together with our friends and allies, we will work to shape change, lest it engulf us. When our vital interests are challenged, or the will and conscience of the international community is defied, we will act; with peaceful diplomacy when ever possible, with force when necessary. The brave Americans serving our nation today in the Persian Gulf, in Somalia, and wherever else they stand are testament to our resolve. But our greatest strength is the power of our ideas, which are still new in many lands. Across the world, we see them embraced, and we rejoice. Our hopes, our hearts, our hands, are with those on every continent who are building democracy and freedom. Their cause is Americas cause. The American people have summoned the change we celebrate today. You have raised your voices in an unmistakable chorus. You have cast your votes in historic numbers. And you have changed the face of Congress, the presidency and the political process itself. Yes, you, my fellow Americans have forced the spring. Now, we must do the work the season demands. To that work I now turn, with all the authority of my office. Much of the good has gone unheralded, and as the President has insisted, much remains to be done. But we do the Presidents cause no good if we praise the American family but ignore a virus that destroys it.We must be consistent if we are to be believed. We cannot love justice and ignore prejudice, love our children and fear to teach them. Whatever our role as parent or policymaker, we must act as eloquently as we speak -- else we have no integrity. I must admit that I didnt quite understand the meaning of Beijings bid until I stand here at this very moment. Nor did I realize the meaning of competition when I set out to prepare for this contest. Having only a vague idea that it would be a challenge in every sense of the word,I hesitated to take the responsibility when I was selected to represent my colloge . I resented my tutor when she found fault with my draft essay, which I was secretly pround of . I wanted to quit when I couldnt finalize the essay for the speech . I felt hurt when I was criticized for being sheepish in the of the Olympic spirit. For this bid, Beijing has been significantly improving its environment, infrastructure, telecommunications and multi-language population. This is the meaning of Beijings bid that I have come to understand. Beijing has yet to convince the IOC that it is the best candidate among all the bidding cities. Although its still early to predict the final votes,I strongly believe that it will eventually host the games. I strongly believe that its competitive spirit developed in this bidding will sp over to the whole nation . I strongly believe that will the support of so many Chinese people ,Beijing will be making greater contributions to Olympism more than any other selected city can. Im looking forward to the day Beijing hosts an Olympiad. Im looking forward to contributing as a volunteer in the Beijing Games. Im looking forward to meeting some athletes who have in all their lives endeavored to be swifter, higher, and stronger . And following them,in the spirit of the Olympic Games,I am looking forward to a new round of competition in my life. Standing here ,I cant help marveling how much the competition has changed me ;站在这里,我不禁惊异于比赛对我的改变是如此之大;marveling how much the biding has changed Beijing ;marveling how bright the world is when we look at competition in a new light and take it as motivation for a better future . Thank you . Judge:Thank you very much ,competitor number nine .Were very glad you overcome your nerves and got here. Judge; Its very enjoyable .Youre been so persuasive and told us how much Beijing has gained aly from taking part in the bidding ,评委:非常有趣。你极具说力地告诉我们,北京从申奥中得到了很多东西,um ,do you think there is anything further for Beijing to gain by winning ,or doesnt it matter? LiJia:Well, of course ,even if we win the bid this time ,there is still much room for us to improve. And there are still, um,a long ,theres still a long way to go .I mean ,um, I ,I , I arrived at Beijing several days ago and I was greeted by a sand storm. So ,I know Beijing ,I know the authorities aly ,um,has aly taken ,所以我知道北京,我知道当局已经采取措施,um,measures to fight the, the environmental ,uh , pollution ,but its not enought . So , um, in my opinion ,um greater efforts and larger sums of money should be spent ,uh, in that aspect. And still I ,I would like to say that people have to be um, familiarized with Olympicism. Like ,like what I have said in my speech ,I was so nervous,um, before I set out . And this contest and Beijing s bid have enabled me to understand the meaning of competition ,the ,the meaning of striving for perfection . And there are so many people who still do not have that understanding or do not have the opportunity. So ,I think more competitions and more contests of this sort should be held .And that is my understanding .Thank you . Judge:Thank you. 10/86125

Irsquo;m speaking to you from the bridge of the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson in San Diego. This is one of the biggest ships in the Navy, and on Friday it was home to one of the most unique college basketball games Irsquo;ve ever seen. It also gave members of our military and our veterans a chance to unwind a little bit, and on this Veterans Day, I want to take this opportunity to thank all our men and women in uniform for their service and their sacrifice. But this day isnrsquo;t just about thanking our veterans. Itrsquo;s about rededicating ourselves to serving our veterans as well as theyrsquo;ve served us. And right now, thatrsquo;s more important than ever.Last month, I announced that, as promised, we will end the war in Iraq by the end of the year. Many of our military families will be welcoming loved ones home for the holidays. At the same time, wersquo;ve begun to wind down the warin Afghanistan. And in the next five years, over a million servicemembers will transition back into civilian life ndash; joining the 3 million who have aly done so over the last decade. These are men and women who have served with distinction in some of the most dangerous places on the planet. But for many of them, the challenges donrsquo;t end when they take off the uniform. Today, more than 850,000 veterans remain unemployed. And too many are struggling to find a job worthy of their talents and experience.Thatrsquo;s not right. We ask these men and women to leave their families and their jobs and risk their lives to fight for our country. The last thing they should have to do is fight for a job when they get home.To give our veterans the opportunities theyrsquo;ve earned, Irsquo;ve directed the federal government to lead by example ndash; and aly, wersquo;ve hired 120,000 veterans. Wersquo;ve also challenged private companies to hire or train 100,000 post-9/11 veterans or their spouses by the end of 2013. So far, many patriotic companies have answered the call, hiring more than 16,000 Americans. And yesterday, thanks to the hard work of Michelle and Dr. Jill Biden, companies announced their commitment to train or hire 125,000 more over the next two years. But we need to do more. Thatrsquo;s why, as part of the American Jobs Act, I called on Congress to pass a Returning Heroes Tax Credit, which would give businesses a tax break for each unemployed veteran they hire; and a Wounded Warriors Tax Credit, which would give businesses a tax break for hiring an unemployed veteran with a disability related to their service in uniform. These proposals will go a long way towards putting our veterans back to work. And on Thursday, I was pleased to see the Senate put partisanship aside and come together to pass these tax credits. After all, standing up for our veterans isnrsquo;t a Democratic responsibility or a Republican responsibility ndash; itrsquo;s an American responsibility. Itrsquo;s one that all of us have an obligation to meet. And the House should pass this bill as soon as possible so I can sign it into law.As Commander-in-Chief, I want every veteran to know that America will always honor your service and your sacrifice ndash; not just today, but every day. And just as you fought for us, wersquo;re going to keep fighting for you ndash; for more jobs, for more security, for the opportunity to keep your families strong and America competitive in the 21st century. So to all our veterans ndash; thank you for your service. God bless you. And may God bless the ed States of America.201111/161055

But there is something that I must say to my people, who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice: In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force. The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must not lead us to a distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny. And they have come to realize that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom. We cannot walk alone. And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead. We cannot turn back.201111/161312
